Areas in BC:

Areas Details

Area Locations:

While historically there have been nine or ten “Areas” in the BC Region, only four are active at this time (2010): Western Fraser Valley; Fraser Valley East; Okanagan-West Kootenays (Kelowna); and Northern BC.

Western Fraser Valley Area (WFVA) is the longest continuously serving Area in BC; an offshoot of the Vancouver Area which was established in the mid-1940’s. The WFVA became a “Regional” Committee when no other committees remained in the 1990’s. They still help with the largest CSB events in BC, and are currently looking after the Greater Vancouver and North Shore Areas. Its physical area goes from the Sunshine Coast to Langley, from Whistler to White Rock., and includes Coquitlam and Maple Ridge.

Fraser Valley East (FVE) was re-established in 2005. It has steadily worked to coordinate events and activities for their Area. Its physical area extends from Abbotsford and Mission to Hope and up to Lytton.

Okanagan - West Kootenays Area (OWKA) was recently re-established and is developing quickly. It’s current area is limited to Kelowna and Grand Forks, but its responsibilities extend from Kamloops to Osoyoos, Merritt to Creston.

Northern BC Area (NBCA) also looks after the Peace Country Area, and is centred in Prince George, making it physically the largest Area in BC. It stretches 12 hours of driving time west to east, 13 hours south to north. Though very large, with a small population base, it is an Area with a rich CSB history.

Vancouver Island Area  (VIA) is growing and is about to be re-established as an independent entity. The Area is comprised of Vancouver Island from Saanich to Port Hardy.

Eastern BC Area (EBCA) currently has no CSB units in its Area. It extends from Cranbrook to Revelstoke along western edge of the Rocky Mountains.
