CSB Canada National day of Prayer 2023

The 2023 National Day of Prayer has concluded...
Thank you, Lord. Thank you, all.
Ours 24 hours of dedicated intercession for the work of CSB Canada has been very special.
We placed many petitions before the Lord and He heard them. He is answering them and He is preparing us for the work needed to bring our prayers to reality. Thank you your part.

Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do,
that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

John 14:13

Saturday, February 18, 2023, midnight to midnight, was set aside for people to pray for the ministry of Christian Service Brigade across Canada.

We asked CSB leaders, churches, friends, alumni and supporters to share with us their prayer requests, and to be our part of our Special Team of Prayer Warriors.

Together, we lifted our petitions to our God.
Our need for prayer... our need to be lifted up to the Lord, has not ended. Be it a prayer for yourself or a prayer for others, please share it using the link, below:
Please share any PRAYER REQUESTS with our
National Office and we will pray over them:

The Stockade Prayer
Lord, our Saviour, Guide and Captain,
Be a solid wall around us.
Make us all courageous servants.
Help us grow to be like Jesus. Amen.

The Brigade Watchword:
Now we trust in God
To keep us Bright and Keen for Christ,
Because we love Him,
Because we want to serve Him,
Until we see Him face to face.

The Brigade Poem
Oldest of Brigade traditions
Is the shield of shining symbols:
Bright, the torch of Christian living,
Keen, the sword of Christian witness,
Open wide the precious treasure,
Word of Truth – the Christ revealing.
On the shield of faith emblazoned:
Bright and Keen for Christ, our motto.

The Brigade Motto
Bright and Keen for Christ.

Prayer Requests & Praise Items 2023:
1. Local CSB Ministries across Canada:
  • Pray that CSB in local churches will continue to Win and Train Boys and Young Men for Christ, and that together we will be fervently Building Godly Men of Today and Tomorrow.
  • Pray for the boys and young men in Christian Service Brigade as they form life-changing relationships with the Lord Jesus Christ; that they will love Him with all their hearts, minds, souls and spirits; that they will grow into men of honour, courage, courtesy, purity, loyalty, obedience, and dedication.
  • Pray the men serving as leaders will be dedicated to Christ, and will be inspired with various opportunities to touch the hearts of boys and their parents.
  • Pray for the weekend and summer camps that Brigade boys get involved with. That they will provide a powerful way of connecting children with Jesus Christ.
  • Pray for safety as our Brigade leaders, boys and families continue to cope with the residual fear from the days of Covid 19 that have virtually eliminated many of our CSB activities.
  • Pray for the men in local churches to step into their roles as providers and protectors, and as prayer warriors for the people in their communities.
  • Pray that God will stir up church leadership to challenge the men in their church to take up their responsibility to disciple and mentor boys to manhood through action-packed, Christ-honouring, geared-to-boys ministry programs.
  • Pray that churches will return to wholeheartedly trusting their "volunteers", those people who are Called by the Lord to serve within the church, as they did before the pandemic; that church staff will encourage church members to serve the Lord with their utmost.
  • Pray that there will be a resurgence of effort to reach out to the boys (and girls) in church communities. Churches should take the Gospel to their neighbours.
  • Pray that doors will be opened in families and in the community as local Christian Service Brigade groups take the Gospel home from the weekly meetings.
  • Pray for a re-establishment of the Tree Climbers ministry in every one of our churches to get dads into the regular ministry to their sons 5 to 7 years old.
  • Pray that Brigade dads will develop a passion to serve God in their churches in whatever way the Lord directs.
  • Pray for the changes for a unit in BC that has moved from one church to another just a few days ago. Pray that the unit will thrive and the church will grow.
  • Pray that more and more young boys attending the Metropolitan Bible Church (Ottawa) will join CSB and be part of the program. Also, pray for godly Christian men at the church will support the program by becoming leaders and mentors.
  • Pray for a couple of churches in Ontario that used to be key churches for CSB that have not even started to operate following the relief from Covid restrictions.
  • Pray for the CSB Father/Son Tough Guys campout April 28-30 in the Lower Mainland of BC. Pray the Lord will bless us with boys and men from non-CSB churches.
  • Praise God for Grace Community Church in North Surrey that has taken in CSB unit 4093 as part of their church ministry. Part of our goal as a CSB unit it to help attract young families to our church. Pray that God would help us do that.

2. The Staff of CSB Canada and their Families:
Howard (Kathie) Pike, President & Regional Director for both British Columbia and Alberta.
  • Pray for him that he will have wisdom and vision as he leads the ministry into the future as our President.
  • Pray for him as he continues to work with churches in Alberta and British Columbia.
  • Pray for him as he is very actively involved in a number of national projects and with our American partners in many initiatives to enhance the ministry resources we wish to provide to churches and others.
  • Pray for him to establish a Regional Council in Alberta that will help find the next Alberta Regional Director.
  • Pray for more men and women to be called to serve with him in CSB nationally, regionally and locally.
Harold (Carol) Browne, Vice President & Regional Director for Quebec & Maritimes
  • Praise that their move to Windsor has worked out well to continue their ministry there.
  • Praise for the Lord’s special care of Harold over the past several months following neurosurgery and his near complete recovery.
  • Pray for special wisdom for them as they seek ways to establish groups in churches in Southwestern Ontario including the church they attend.
  • Pray for Harold as he calls on men to join him in building CSB in the Maritimes, as well as in Quebec.
Gord (Marie) Banman, Supply Centre Manager & Regional Director for Manitoba, South Saskatchewan & Western Ontario
  • Pray for them as they continue operate the Supply Centre which had started to rebound after years of Covid-decline.
  • Pray that their local CSB group would continue to be a model ministry and an example for how CSB should be done in a large urban church.
  • Pray for Gord's overall health.
  • Pray for a small council of men to come alongside Gord to support the Work of CSB in his broad region.
Ron (Diane) Carnahan, Regional Director for Ontario
  • Pray for them as he works with the churches in Ontario.
  • Pray for Ron as he occasionally faces health issues that cause him serious pain.
  • Pray for him as he diligently seeks men to join him in rebuilding CSB in Ontario.
  • Pray for the Lord to call men who will push Brigade through the barriers which seem to have dampened the former excitement for CSB in Ontario.
Dr. Steve (Bonnie) Grove, Regional Director for North Saskatchewan & Special Projects
  • Pray for special wisdom for him as he balances his full time duties as the Camp Director with Camp Easter Seal with his projects for CSB.
  • Pray for him as he works on significant Brigade projects, including our Frontier Trails Battalion Achievement Guide and the Junior Leaders’ Training Guide.
  • Pray for the young men working on Battalion Achievements, that they would progress into the Herald Of Christ program.
  • My wife Bonnie has been diagnosed with Bell's Palsy on the right side of her face. Please pray for a quick recovery.
  • My son Ben is starting ground school (pilot training) in April - pray for a successful course and God continuing to lead him in his pursuits.
3. CSB Canada Requests:
  • Pray for Board Members of CSB Canada, Warren Hart, Art Maitland, Gord Lovegrove, Wayne King, and Keith Hadigate as they provide overall leadership and determine the direction of the organization.
  • Pray for our partners south of the border, particularly for their President, Scott Haima, and all the staff of CSB USA.
  • Pray for our upcoming Iron Sharpens Iron Conference in Aldergrove BC coming up on April 1. Pray that all the details would be worked out. Pray that there would be many men in attendance and that each one would be impacted for the Lord by being there.
  • Praise the Lord for each one of our Donors, especially those who have supported us so faithfully over the years as monthly, pre-authorized donors. Pray that God will continue to bless them as they bless others.
  • Praise The Lord for His provision of the funds from our Special Christmas Fund Raiser, Double Your Impact. Our goal of $12,000 was exceeded, the greatest amount received in recent years for year-end appeal. Pray for wisdom for the Board and Staff on how those funds should be used to advance and grow our ministry in the days, weeks and months ahead.
  • Pray for CSB Canada as we desire to seek the Lord with all our hearts, knowing that His Plans for us are perfect.
  • Pray for our efforts in "Winning and Training Boys and Young Men for Christ" as we encourage men and CSB leaders to be effective in their churches and ministries, families and communities to be mighty Men of God and worthy Christ-followers.
  • Pray for the expansion of CSB to more churches in Canada. Pray that this ministry will continue to raise up multiple generations of Christ-following boys and young men in our partnership with churches. We are particularly focused on the communities around our staff members where it would be easy to reach out to parents and churches about a ministry to their boys.
  • Pray for open doors and open hearts as Brigade develops new ways to connect with churches with our ministry programs and discipleship materials.
  • Pray for our initiative to reactivate "Girls Alive", our ministry to girls, and especially for several women to join a steering committee as we begin the process of refining curriculum resources specifically for girls.
  • Pray for CSB's work in Men's Ministry for the building of men within local churches to serve Jesus Christ across the country and starting with the boys in their own churches.
  • Pray for fruit, as result of our participating in a number of convention events: Transformative Times TO, Promise Keepers/Impactus, Mission Central-BC, MissionFest MB, Mission Vision-Fort St John, Iron Sharpens Iron-Buffalo, Detroit and Vancouver, Missions Fest AB, EFC Presidents’ Day, etc.
  • Pray that CSB Canada would be able to establish a network of contacts with former leaders, Pastors, boys and young men, especially our Heralds of Christ, and get them involved as ambassadors for CSB as part of the revitalization of this ministry across Canada, with a particular focus on Ontario for this year.
  • Pray for wisdom as we establish Regional Committees in each Region as part of our overall plan to revitalize the ministry.
  • Pray that we would be able to raise a Team of Prayer Warriors who will regularly pray for the ministry across Canada.
  • Pray for the wives and families of our Staff and Board Members; for their strength, health, safety, spiritual dedication, and encouragement.
CSB Canada's Priorities:
  • BUILD MEN WHO BUILD BOYS FOR CHRIST. CSB Canada builds men. It is the men of the local churches who build boys for Christ. Please pray that we will strengthen our bonds with the men of CSB, because they know how the win and train boys for Christ, they know how to deal with all the worldly distractions, and they know some great activities/events/games/stories/etc that make CSB fun in Christ Jesus.
  • REINTRODUCE CSB TO CHURCHES AND COMMUNITIES ACROSS CANADA. Please pray that CSB Canada will clearly show families and church leadership that we are uniquely qualified to build men and boys (women and girls) as Christian leaders who build their churches and communities.
  • UPDATE & RELAUNCH A CSB-PARTNERED GIRLS MINISTRY. CSB Canada was partnered with Pioneer Girls. We were partnered with Girls Alive. Churches tell us that we need a partner ministry that will serve women and girls in the same way CSB serves men and boys. Pray that our efforts to update Girls Alive for August will bear much fruit.
  • BUILD MEN THROUGH IRON SHARPENS IRON MEN'S CONFERENCES. CSB's annual ISI Men's Conference draws together ministries that build men for Christ. It happens live in BC on April 1st, but it is also being simulcast in Nova Scotia. Please pray that we will be successful in creating a conference that can be useful in many ways.
  • REGIONAL COUNCILS FOR EACH REGION. Covid hit CSB hard at all levels - nationally, regionally, locally, and individually. We are seeing very, very encouraging signs of renewed interest at most of our groups. This can be very positive for us all, but each region has its own unique needs. Pray that CSB will be able to establish a small regional council that will encourage and guide its region with promotion, events and involvement.
  • CONTINUE TO IMPROVE THE CSB STORE AND OUR COMMUNICATION TOOLS. CSB Canada continues to need an "IT Guy" to help us with our internet-based tools: the website, the CSB Store, and the email system. Please pray that we will find a solution before June, and have full results before September.
4. Specific Prayer Requests:
  • Pray for several men who are being considered for the role of Regional (and National) Staff Associates, to support the ministry of their Regional Director.
  • Pray for a former leader may be going blind. Doctor's are having difficulties trying to stabilize the condition. (URGENT)
  • One of our prayer partners asked that we pray for her to listen to the "still, small voice" of the Holy Spirit to ensure she would balance her time in accordance with His will between serving her church, reaching out to family & friends, reaching out to Muslims, prayer & personal needs.
  • One of our key leaders has asked us to pray that the Lord would show him clearly what his role in CSB Canada should be, and that he will do what the Lord Jesus has called him to do!
  • Pray for all of our Churches. Over the last couple of years, we have lost contact with many of them. As a result, we do not know our congregations, who remains, who has left, or how many boys or potential leaders for CSB we may have. Pray that we would be able to re-establish contact with them and that we would be able to help them and their churches revive their ministry to boys and young men.
  • Pray for a spiritual revival in our nation starting with our churches, our Brigade groups, our communities, and our national institutions.
  • Pray for the wife of one of our key leaders who has an upcoming surgery to finish what was started a year and a half ago. Just pray that it goes well and that she would transition back to normal. The surgery is scheduled for March 22nd.
  • A key leader in BC asks for prayer for stroke recovery for my wife. He also asks us to pray for the strengthening of his right hand and shoulder, and for proper movement in that shoulder.
