Outpost Adventures:
Outpost Adventures – Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is an Outpost Adventure?
A: An Outpost Adventure is a small booklet of Achievements that focuses on the "action" of Stockade. These are the How Things Work and Adventures in Action Achievements. There is also an appropriate Memory Verse for each section.
Q: How many Achievements are there in an Outpost Adventure?
A: There are usually five Achievement options in both the Builder and the Sentinel sections from which the boy usually chooses a total of three. These are How Things Work and Adventures in Action Achievements, usually three of one type and two of the other.
Q: How is an Outpost Adventure used?
A: The Outpost Adventure has a dual-purpose. It is firstly an integral part of the boy's Personal Achievement Program. It is the "action" stuff of a boy's Achievement.
Q: Why are the Outpost Adventure Achievements not included in the boy's Trail Guides?
A: Outpost Adventures are not included in the Trail Guides because there are so many of them. But, more importantly, by making the Outpost Adventures separate, we give the boy the opportunity to "choose his own adventure". This is the primary reason.
Q: Other than as Personal Achievement, what is the other purpose of the Outpost Adventure?
A: The Outpost Adventure also serves as the basis for the small-group discipleship during the Post Meeting when a Stockade is doing a Module.
Q: Why is Personal Achievement being done during the Post Meeting when the Stockade is doing a Module?
A: By doing Achievement during the Post Meeting, the boy is encouraged to do more at home, thus completing an entire Blockhouse or Station on his own.
Q: Are there other benefits to the boy doing Achievement at home?
A: Yes. God has used Achievement to bring a boy's mother, even his entire family, to salvation through the Memory Verses and the Bible stories.
Q: Can a boy complete an Outpost Adventure simply by attending all the activities that the group does through a Stockade Module?
A: Yes, but the leaders have to be attentive to the details. Memory Verses must be done; field trips or special events must be attended. However, the leader is allowed to right in and initial "equivalent" activities of equal value as the required Achievement.
Q: Can a boy do an Outpost Adventure as a Builder and then do it again as a Sentinel?
A: Yes. There is a Builder section and a Sentinel section in each Outpost Adventure. These are age-graded Achievements that grow with the boy.
Q: What does a boy receive for completing his section of an Outpost Adventure?
A: A boy receives an Outpost Adventure (cloth) Patch.
Q: Where is the Outpost Adventure Patch displayed?
A: The Patch is usually affixed to the boy's uniform on the side of his current rank - Builder on the right, Sentinel on the left. Some Stockade groups may have other ways of showing a boy's Achievements; a backpack or a shield. There is also room to affix the Patch in the boy's Trail Guide on the Outpost Adventure page.
Q: Can a boy do both sections of the Outpost Adventure?
A: Yes. Whether the boy is a Builder or a Sentinel, he can do the other section.
Q: What does a boy receive for completing the requirements of both sections of an Outpost Adventure?
A: He receives an Honor Star for doing the entire Outpost Adventure at the same time.
Q: What is an Honor Star?
A: An Honor Star is a metal pin which reflects the extra effort that a boy has made in completing the entire Outpost Adventure.
Q: Where does the Honor Star go?
A: An Honor Star pin goes through the bottom right corner of the Outpost Adventure Patch.
Q: What if a boy does an Outpost Adventure as a Builder and then does it later as a Sentinel?
A: When a boy does an Outpost Adventure as a Builder, he receives the Outpost Adventure Patch as a Builder. When he does it again as a Sentinel, he receives the same patch as a Sentinel. Builder and Sentinel awards are displayed separately.
Q: Can't a Sentinel boy get an Honor Star for doing the Sentinel section if he already did the Outpost Adventure as a Builder?
A: No, there is no great honor in doing the minimum requirements. He receives credit for his Achievement in other ways.
Q: Can a boy do a Module for an Outpost Adventure that he already has and get something out of the experience?
A: Absolutely YES! When a boy does an Outpost Adventure as part of his Personal Achievement, he is doing it an action-based Achievement. But when he does it as a Module with his group, he is getting it from an entire different point of view. At the very least, he will find a significant spiritual component added to his experience.

A: Yes. The experience is different when he is doing an Outpost Adventure as his own Personal Achievement.
Q: Can a boy do an Outpost Adventure as part of his Personal Achievement at the very same time that his group is doing it as a Stockade Module?

Q: If a Builder or a Sentinel boy does an Outpost Adventure as a Stockade Module and also as a Personal Achievement, does he get two identical Patches on the same side of his uniform?

Q: Can a Sentinel earn an Honor Star for an Outpost Adventure that he also did as a Builder?
A: Generally, No. A Sentinel boy can't earn an Honor Star for Achievement that he did as Builder, even if he was only doing it as a group Module. This must be at the local leader's discretion as the Honor Star reflects the boy's extra effort.
